Atheist draws a crowd of 3,000 in OU speech
Retired Oxford professor Richard Dawkins told a packed house of Oklahoma college students that though he can’t prove that God doesn’t exist, there is no scientific evidence for His existence.
Dawkins spoke as part of the university’s yearlong “celebration of the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin” and his theory of evolution.
Dawkins wrote The God Delusion and paid for billboards in England announcing that God doesn’t exist.
“If individual faculty and students want to extend invitations to those who are critics of Darwin, the university would extend full rights of free speech to them, as well,” OU President David Boren said in a released statement.
Boren claimed the Dawkins’ speech was not a formal university program.
Rep. Todd Tomsen, R-Ada, has introduced a resolution in the Oklahoma House opposing the speech by Dawkins and his appearance at OU.
