Football fans are in for a treat

Get ready, football fans – 2009 is shaping up as a whale of year in Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Sooners, who came within 10 points of being national champs last year, are ranked third in the preseason. They return Heisman Trophy quarterback Sam Bradford, two 1,000-yard rushers and the best tight end in the country.
If that isn’t scary enough, the Sooner defense is improved.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are ranked 11th and are poised to make a run at the conference championship. All American receiver Dez Bryant, quarterback Zac Robinson and running back Kendall Hunter give the Pokes a 1-2-3 punch that may be the best in the country.
An offense that averaged more than 40 points a game last year is back.
And if that isn’t scary enough, the Cowboy defense is improved.
Last year, Tulsa replaced record-setting quarterback Paul Smith with David Johnson. All Johnson did was come in second in the nation in passing efficiency and break a ton of offensive records.
For two years, TU has had the top or one of the top two offenses in the country.
Some speculate that OU and OSU could both be 11-1 when the Bedlam game heads to Norman in November.
TU has been in three of the past four Conference USA title games. OU has won three straight Big 12 championships. OSU opens against SEC powerhouse Georgia.
In other words, it’s fun to be a college football fan in Oklahoma.
