Hubbard undecided about entering the NFL Draft

Oklahoma State got good news when All American running back Chuba Hubbard announced he would play in the Texas Bowl.

Oklahoma State and Texas A&M will play in the 2019 Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl on Dec. 27 at 5:45 p.m. at NRG Stadium in Houston. The game will air on ESPN.

Hubbard, a junior, could declare for the NFL Draft and he is projected as a high draft pick.

“Chuba’s been out there from day one. I guess it’s just normal now when you have a player rated that high, no one knows if he’s going to play in a bowl,” OSU coach Mike Gundy said about the rumors of Hubbard skipping the Texas Bowl. “Unfortunately, that’s justified.

“What (Hubbard) will do in his NFL future, I don’t think anybody knows – including him. I was glad that he met with the media and gave them his response. Hopefully people will quit asking him that question because he’s not going to make a decision for at least a month.”

Hubbard has 1,936 yards rushing on 309 attempts (6.3 yard average per carry). Hubbard has 21 rushing touchdowns. He also has 21 pass receptions for 183 yards (8.7 yards per catch average). Hubbard’s longest run was 92 yards.

Gundy also said that injured quarterback Spencer Sanders would play against Texas A&M.

“Spencer Sanders is back to full speed,” Gundy said. “Dru Brown is full speed.

“We’ll play both guys. I would fully expect for both players to play in the game.”

Sanders was injured late in the season and missed the Bedlam game with No. 4 Oklahoma.

In 2019, Sanders hit 155 of 247 passing attempt (63%) for 2,065 yards and 16 touchdowns. His 11 interceptions were a problem but he made up for that with his running ability.

Backup Dru Brown hit 22 of 29 passes (76%) for 196 yards and two touchdowns in a late season win over West Virginia. Brown connected on 22 of 32 passes (69%) in the loss to OU. He had no touchdowns and one interception as the Cowboys fell, 16-34.

On the year, Brown, a graduate transfer from Hawaii, hit 57 of 79 passes (72%) with five touchdowns and only one interception.

Isaiah Spiller is the leading rusher for Texas A&M with 869 yards on 155 carries and nine touchdowns. Spiller rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns in a lop-sided 45-14 win over UTSA. Aggie quarterback Kellen Mond has rushed 114 times for 383 yards and seven touchdowns. Mond has completed 245 passes in 400 attempts (61%) for 2,802 yards and 19 touchdowns. He has thrown nine interceptions.

In the last game against No. 1 LSU, Mond hit only 10 of 30 passes and was intercepted three times with no touchdowns.

Perhaps his best game was a 49-30 win over Mississippi State when he hit 17 of 23 passes (74%) for  234 yards and three touchdowns.

Aggie placekicker Seth Small hit 17 of 22 field goals in 2019, including one 50-yarder. Small hit all of his PATs (43 of 43). Small was 7-for-7 in field goal attempts against UTSA.
