The City of Tulsa and Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) announced the start of new street light installations across Tulsa.

Following a street light installation moratorium that lasted more than a decade, the city has since accumulated a list of nearly 100 locations where street lights have been requested and now has the funds to be able to install street lights at these locations. Using the feedback from the 2018 Gallup CitiVoice Index, the City was able to prioritize the areas that needed lights the most.

Since the moratorium started, the City has asked residents who thought there needed to be a street light in a dark area to make a report to 311, with 96 locations now formally identified (detailed in the attached document) as candidates for new streetlight installations.

“We have been in close contact and working with the city for some months to plan and coordinate the resumption of street light installations,” said Steve Baker, Vice President for AEP- PSO. “We are prepared to respond to the City’s requests for new streetlights and ready to begin that work.”

Work will be divided into three phases, with phase one already underway.

“I am so excited the City will be able to provide residents with the chance to light up their neighborhoods,” District 2 City Councilor Jeannie Cue said. “This will be a wonderful addition to each community and I am so thankful that the money is now available to help residents across Tulsa.” Residents who would like to request a street light in their neighborhood can continue to make reports by making a report at www.tulsa311.com.
