The University of Tulsa linebacker Zaven Collins and long snapper Adam Higuera were named to Phil Steele’s Preseason All-America fourth team, the magazine announced.

Collins, who was selected as one of 90 players to the preseason watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award, was a second-team American Athletic Conference selection last year. In 2019, Collins recorded 97 tackles, eight TFLs for -27 yards, two sacks and two pass breakups.

The 6-4 junior from Hominy, Oklahoma, has played in 24 career games with 22 starts and has totaled 182 tackles and 17.5 TFLs, six pass breakups and two fumble recoveries. A 2018 Freshman All-American, as named by USA Today and FWAA, Collins has six double-figure tackle games and two blocked kicks in his career.

Higuera, a senior from Gilbert, Arizona, has handled long snapping duties in all of his 36 career games played. The 6-1 senior has been flawless as Tulsa’s long snapper since his first game as a true freshman in 2017. In his first career contest, Higuera scored Tulsa’s first touchdown of the season after recovering a fumbled punt in the end zone against Oklahoma State.

Tulsa opens the football season on September 5, with a home game against the Toledo Rockets.
