Oklahoma football coach Lincoln Riley has a new two-year contract extension that will pay him an average annual salary of $7,535,00.

The new contract will pay Riley $45,200,000 over the next six football seasons.

The OU Board of Regents negotiated new contracts with several OU coaches prior to the onslaught of the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.

OU Athletic Director Joe Castiglione said the new deals for Riley and the assistant coaches were settled in February. Castiglione said market forces dictated the pay increases and contract extensions.

Riley was supposed to be paid $6,150,000 for this season but he agreed to a 10% pay cut, a move accepted by all coaches and administrators who make more than $1 million a year in salary. That includes defensive coordinator Alex Grinch, basketball coach Lon Kruger, softball coach Patty Gasso and women’s basketball coach Sherri Coale.

In a three-year contract extension, Grinch got a $400,000 a year increase and will now make $1,800,000 a year. That’s the highest pay for an assistant coach in OU history. All other assistant coaches – except DeMarco Murray and Jamar Cain who are in the first year at OU – got two-year contracts.

Kruger, Coale, Gasso, gymnastics coach Mark Williams, women’s gymnastics coach K.J. Kindler and baseball coach Skip Johnson all are extended at least through 2024.
