Oklahoma State may have found its quarterback of the future.

Four-star quarterback Shane Illingworth of Norco, California, tweeted, “Committed to Oklahoma State University…. See you soon Stillwater!”

Verbal commitments aren’t binding but if Illingworth shows up in Stillwater, he will be the first quarterback signed by Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson.

Last year, Illingworth threw for 2,739 yards with 29 touchdowns and only seven interceptions as he led Norco into the state playoffs.

According to GoPokes.com, Illingworth would be OSU’s highest rated quarterback recruit since Bobby Reid, although Mason Rudolph (now with the Pittsburgh Steelers) had been rated a four-star recruit.

“You just know it when you know it,” Illingworth told Go Pokes and 247Sports. “You know it felt right.”

He is scheduled to visit OSU on June 12. He is in school until June 5.

With the graduation of Taylor Cornelius, Spencer Sanders is expected to start at quarterback for the Cowboys this year. Waiting in the wings are former Hawaii starter and graduate transfer Dru Brown, true freshman Brendan Costello, and walk-on freshman Shaun Taylor.

Illingworth has an uncle who lives in Mustang, Oklahoma.

Recruits are not fully committed until they sign national letters of intent. Even after some players have made verbal commitments, they are still being recruited by other schools and some players change their minds.
